The tesa® 4934 is a double-sided fabric tape designed for general purpose mounting applications. It consists of a white cloth backing coated on both sides with a thick, tacky synthetic rubber adhesive that is solvent-free. The tape is protected by a glassine liner and has a total thickness of 200 µm. One of its practical advantages is that it is easily hand-tearable, requiring no tools or cutting instruments for use.
The tape is particularly well-suited for mounting on rough or fibrous surfaces, with carpet laying being a primary application, thanks to its flexible fabric backing and high adhesive coating weight. Its performance profile includes very good tack and good humidity resistance, with a fogging rating of very good. It offers strong static shear resistance at 40°C and moderate resistance at 23°C, though shear resistance drops at higher temperatures (70°C). Long-term temperature resistance is rated to 40°C, with a short-term maximum of 60°C. UV ageing resistance is rated as medium. Tensile strength is 35 N/cm, with an elongation at break of 20%.
In terms of adhesion, the tape bonds progressively stronger over time across multiple substrates. Initial adhesion to steel is 14.5 N/cm, climbing to 24 N/cm after 14 days. On polypropylene, it starts at 16 N/cm and reaches 24.5 N/cm after 14 days. PVC adhesion goes from 14 N/cm to 22.5 N/cm, while polyethylene sees more modest gains from 8 N/cm to 8.5 N/cm over the same period.
